This is an introduction to the regulatory framework of chemical management compliance in Argentina. The course is designed to provide an overview of the governing laws, regulations, including publications in the daily or national gazette.

 Objectives of the course

Students will learn:

  • Country-specific laws and regulations for import/export of chemicals
  • Legal requirements and compliance for effective management of non-hazardous and hazardous/toxic chemicals throughout chemical life cycles
  • Restricted and Prohibited chemicals
  • Controlled substances and chemical precursor
  • Occupational outlook of the regulations governing hazardous substances and Environment, Health and Safety in the workplace (EH&S).

2:45 – 3:30     - Restricted/Prohibited Substances and conditions of importation

PRESENTERS

 

 

Leticia Cuevas

R. Leticia Cuevas is a Senior Partner and Executive Director at Specialists in International Law on Latin America and The Caribbean, S.C. (SILLAC).  Ms. Cuevas focuses on Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S), on occupational safety in International Labor Law, and conducts extensive research and analysis on compliance with the workplace health and safety regulations of over twenty-six Latin America and Caribbean jurisdictions. Ms. Cuevas has worked on compliance issues under regional trade agreements such as the earlier NAFTA (currently delivering reports under the USMCA), CAFTA, MERCOSUR, CARICOM, and the International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions and the World Trade Organization (WTO) dispute settlement procedures. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from American University – Washington College of Law, a first law degree (JD) from the University of the State of Morelos, Faculty of Law and Social Science; and a Bachelor of Science from Pace University, White Plains, New York campus. Ms. Cuevas is proficient in English and Spanish and translates legal texts from Portuguese and French into English and Spanish.

 

 

 

 

 

Kelly Fontes

Kelly Fontes is a Brazilian lawyer admitted to practice in Brazil. She is an active member of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).  Ms. Fontes holds a Master of Laws degree in International Law and Comparative Law from Penn State University – Dickinson Law School. Ms. Fontes’ expertise includes Property and Environmental law, focusing on expropriation, waste and chemical regulation. She was the legal advisor for the Brazilian Bar Association where she worked in the Environmental Law Committee organizing projects to advise and educate students and citizens on the obligation and the benefits derived from protecting the environment. Ms. Fontes has worked as a Project Manager and Marketing Specialist for an international law firm, which included the following responsibilities: international marketing to develop business projects for the firm, direct international research projects and production and coordination of international law seminars, webinars, conferences, and workshops for government agencies, corporations, law firm professionals, and NGOs. In addition to the above, Ms. Fontes researches Latin American Laws impacting Labor and Environmental trade agreements. Currently, Ms. Fontes conducts regulatory analysis and provides technical advice on local, regional, international health and environmental law legislation, statutes, and standards with emphasis in Latin America, Spain and Portugal.
