Using Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in the Real World Trenches

The OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (HAZCOM) and the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) aim for clear hazard communication.  Inconsistencies in Safety Data Sheets still cause headaches for EHS personnel and more so for the end users.

This presentation will help you with identify the skills needed to navigate SDS complexities to help with a better understanding.

Through real-world examples, you'll learn:

• Decoding multi-regulatory SDSs: understanding how different compliance bodies impact the information presented (e.g. EPA vs. DOT vs. ECHA vs. REACH vs. OSHA).
• How industry-specific uses can influence data within an SDS (e.g. Manufacturing vs. Final Product).
• Practical strategies for handling situations where a SDS does not properly communicate the material’s hazards (either more dangerous than reported or less dangerous than reported).  Too conservative or liberal on the data does not help protect users
• How to manage irrelevant data in different sections of the SDS such as firefighting, PPE, or waste disposal.
