Alternatives in Animal Testing (0.5-day)

PDF Brochure — last offered March 17, 2019

Description:

The Advanced Topics in EHS series of courses were designed to expand on topics that are introduced in the other SCHC courses. The topic of alternatives in animal testing is introduced in the SCHC course Hazard Determination and Risk Assessment.

The goal of this course is to provide an examination of alternatives in animal testing, including the social and political pressures to reduce the use of animals in product testing. Emphasis is placed on the science and various methodologies used for establishing alternatives in animal testing as well as the appropriateness and regulatory limits on the use of these alternatives in hazard communication. The goal of this course is to provide participants with an understanding of the technical aspects of alternatives in animal testing as well as an appreciation of their present and future role in hazard communication. This course has been updated to include the EPA’s strategic plan to reduce the use of vertebrate animal in testing under TSCA.

This is considered to be an advanced course. While there are no formal prerequisites for this course, it is strongly recommended that participants have a working knowledge of SDS and labels and that they have either taken the SCHC course, Toxicology for Hazard Communication, or that they be comfortable with the basic concepts of toxicology.
