Objectives:

This advanced course offers hazard communications experts an opportunity to use their education and training to help their company develop products that are “safe and sustainable by design.” This course may be of particular interest to those involved in the “new product introduction” processes of their company. This is a “train-the-trainer” session which provides such experts a strategy to help those in their company that make chemical decisions, e.g., R&D scientists, process engineers, a means to select safer, less regulated alternatives in the development of new products using haz com documentation. In doing so, this can help align with a company’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals, such as use of less hazardous chemicals, application of selected green chemistry principles, and develop products that help their customers meet their safety and sustainability performance goals. Such activities allow hazard communication experts a means to increase their visibility and collaboration amongst other functions in the company, while contributing to the top and bottom line.

Abstract:

Hazard communications experts can use their knowledge to train staff in their company develop products that are “safe and sustainable by design.” For example, SDSs can be used to make more informed decisions when faced with chemical options to identify safer, less regulated chemicals. This “train-the-trainer” course will highlight sections of SDSs that can aid in the selection of chemicals used as product ingredients, in manufacturing processes (e.g., technical and processing aids), and for quality assurance/control applications.
