Who Really Understands How to Read a Safety Data Sheet
View Brochure — Available September 19, 2022
Course Description and Objectives
OSHA requires employees to have access to SDS’s and understand them. Very few safety, hazardous material, and industrial hygiene professionals truly know how to understand the data in an SDS let alone “all employees.” This course will delve into the understanding of the technical content in a SDS with a special emphasis on toxicology. The course will also cover how to manage misleading information, review of specific sections for use such as shipping and disposal, and address the confusing topic of pharmaceutical SDS’s. This is considered an intermediate to advanced webinar.
After completion of this course participants should be able to
- Know when to disregard extraneous information
- Know how to manage SDS’s for non-hazardous materials
- Understand what information needs to be included
- Manage proprietary information
- Understand the basic legal requirements of use and creation of SDSs
- Understand the technical content (e.g. Toxicology and rating systems) in a SDS’s
- Be able to determine hazard classes for shipping
- Provide appropriate guidance on use of PPE
Intended Audience
